Back to Film, a Day out with the Mamiya 645 (cont)
I was orignally told a week to 10 days for developing due to it being black and white, but after 2 weeks I have finally got the photos back fom my first day out with the Mamiya 645.
I have since been through them with a critical eye, and I have to say, for the first attempt with a camera I knew nothing about before using it, the pictures came out alright. Some had slight focusing issues, and the exposure was good in most (which means I figured the light meter out) but over all I was very happy with the results.
I found the whole experence of taking the shots, waiting for them to be returned quite exciting and very enjoyable.
The obvious benifits to digital are that you can get instant feedback on what you are taking, but, it does give photographers the trigger happy atitude with the hope of one being a good shot.
I must admit that sometimes I fall into that hole, and happyilly shoot away a card of picture not really think about it. On the other hand I found with film, because of the cost and time involved, I was taking much more time to compose then image in my head before even getting the camera out, then checking the light, setting the aperture and shutter speed then finally taking the shot. It really turns it into a large opperation, which I wouldn’t have missed for the world, it reminded me that it still needs to be thought about when using digital.
I have since fentured out a couple of more times with a colour roll of film, and when I finish the roll off I will be waiting impatiently for the pictures again.
