Jessops Discounts No More!

On talking to a sales assistant at the local Jessops Store I was Shocked to find out that the CEOs of Jessops have decided to abolish the one off discounts that staff can give out.
You’ll been there, spending hundreds if not thousands of pounds in a shop, and you’ll ask “Can I get a discount for buying it all in one go” the usual reply will be “hmmmm, well, I can give you 10% off”, well not any more at Jessops Unless you can find the same product cheaper within a five minute walk, on their website or with the coupon out of a magazine saying they will match anything in the other advertisements you will be told “No, Sorry we can’t do that anymore!”.
I would always ask for something, even if its a free cable, for their thanks for giving them a big wad of cash, but that can be the difference between making a sale and the customer going elsewhere, and that was confirmed to me when the sales person actually said that they have lost sales because if it.
Lots more companies are going down the route of having no discounts unless its a standard offer. Isn’t a happy customer in the companies best interests, even if they don’t lose the sale, they may lose a customer, who, in the long run will spend a lot more money in a shop he/she likes, and may even spend the extra for pounds on the price than go to another shop because of that loyalty and good service, I know I’ve spent a little more on a product just because I liked the shop/sales people and in previous sales had discounts of more.
In the age of internet shoping, you can get things a lot cheaper than in the shop, but, there is no haggling on the internet, its just a cheaper price than the shops, so wouldn’t it be better for the shops if they did give a little on the prices so that the customer doesn’t look else where.
I know myself, I would always prefer to have a face to complain to in the event of a problem, and if it means paying a little more than the internet, I would be willing, but not to much, and not if their not even willing to give you a slight discount or something free for choosing to support their shop.
