Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Since I’m in the Internet Business, I spend a lot of time going through websites either for work or pleasure.

One thing that tends to crop up from time to time is that some sites don’t work as intended in all browsers. Mostly due to the way the browser handles the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Even the change from Internet Explorer 6 to 7 (which is coming into effect through Windows Auto Update) has been causing problems with some sites.

I am currently working on a site which is involved with another high profiled project in Cheshire (which will remain unamed) which has that very problem. In Internet Explorer 6 it looks great, everything is in its place and works fine. Look at it in Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox and things look a lot different, part of the main logo at the top is covered, the navigation bar is out of place, text is out of place, to name but a few. On one site I looked at for photography of a recent British Superbikes Event I attended, the navigation bar wasn’t even visible, I only realised this when I was looking for the home button and hovered over it by mistake, took a look in Internet Explorer and there it was.

With the growing use of different browsers (see Browser Statistics), websites and Businesses can’t afford for their websites to have problems like the above. Most of these problems are sortable by amending your Style Sheet to meet standards, some may involve a little rewrite of the HTML, but all is sortable.
