“Dear Reader, Thank you for your entry into our recent competition. Unfortunately your entry was unsuccessful, however don’t be deterred as the quality of Practical Photography competition entries is extremely high.” - Practical Photography.

This is the response I received on entering their competition, although I didn’t win this isn’t a bad response. If you click on the above image you will see it goes into more detail saying that due to the volume of entries they can’t comment on every image entered, then lists the different reasons in order (with a tick box) of why you didn’t win a prize.

For my entry (see above), I was given this “feedback” – Excellent entry, but not quite good enough to be short listed. So in short they thought I interpreted the theme well, had good camera technique, good composition, the image had impact, “but” was not quite good enough to be short listed.

I would have to say that was some good feedback on the first time I have ever sent a photo to a competition, let alone Photographer of the Year stage 1.
